AN OAK TREE opens at the Young Vic
In celebration of its 20th anniversary, Tim Crouch's groundbreaking AN OAK TREE, one of the most influential new plays of our time, is being revived at the Young Vic and will run until 24th May.
A father loses his daughter in a car accident. The driver of the car that killed her is a stage hypnotist. The two men meet for the first time when the father volunteers for the hypnotist’s act. What follows is a live theatrical experience like no other - a bold and absurdly comic story of loss, suggestion and the power of the mind.
At each performance, Tim is joined by a different guest artist, who will have neither seen nor read a single word of the play - until they're in it. Over the past 20 years guests have included Frances McDormand, Peter Dinklage, Mike Myers, Susan Wokoma, Toby Jones and David Harewood amongst many others. Tim has now performed AN OAK TREE 380 times at theatres all across the world. His play, he says, “is like a lizard; it loses its tail and regrows it”.
For this new run at the Young Vic, guest artists will be revealed to audiences live on the night. The line-up includes Adjoa Andoh, Lorraine Ashbourne, Jessie Buckley, Arthur Darvill, Ṣọpẹ́ Dìrísù, Alfred Enoch, Eddie Marsan, Nina Sosanya, Meera Syal, David Tennant, Michelle Terry, Luke Thompson, Russell Tovey and Indira Varma. Tickets can be booked here - don't miss it!
