Richard Burridge was born in 1951 in Rothbury, Northumberland.

At university he started the film society, wrote criticism, acted and directed. In 1976 he joined the National Film and Television School as a screenwriter, where he wrote and directed the 50 minute 35mm film BAD LIGHT.
