Olivia J. Middleton is a Scottish-born, London-based film and television director.

Olivia began her television directing career through high-end placements and attachments, completing director placements and second-unit directing roles on the BBC drama Two Weeks in August under Matthew Moore, and Amazon’s The Rig (Series 2) under John Strickland.

Her short films have screened widely at major UK and international festivals. Rosalyn won Best Scottish Short at the Edinburgh Short Film Festival and Best Cork Short at the Cork International Film Festival, while A90, funded by Screen Scotland and BFI NETWORK via Short Circuit, was selected by Short of the Week and screened at BAFTA and Oscar-qualifying festivals. Her most recent short, Morning, premiered in 2024 and continues to screen internationally.

On the feature side, Olivia is currently in funded development with Screen Scotland and BFI NETWORK via the First Features programme for Für Sadie, an adaptation of a celebrated Scottish novel. She is also developing two original feature projects, Painted Dogs and Foul, as part of Modern Archive Films’ slate.

Olivia’s work is poetic and performance-led, with a strong focus on emotional truth, character psychology, and intimate, story-driven filmmaking.

She holds a BA (Hons) in Film from Edinburgh Napier University and has completed professional training with NFTS, Film London Labs, and The Script Factory.
