Lisa Spirling

Born and bred in Lancashire, Lisa read Drama and Theatre at Royal Holloway, University of London before studying directing at LAMDA. She is an award winning freelance director and since August 2016 the Artistic Director of Theatre503.
Along with extensive freelance directing credits in 2008 Lisa set up Buckle for Dust Theatre Company with producers Claire Birch and Juliette Rawlins and writers Ali Taylor and Lou Ramsden. With a commitment to creating opportunities for theatre's most distinctive voices. Buckle For Dust's inaugural production was COTTON WOOL at Theatre503 which garnered the Meyer Whitworth Award for its writer Ali Taylor. Lisa then directed Buckle For Dust's production in association with ETT of Lou Ramsden's HUNDREDS AND THOUSANDS at Soho Theatre.
Previously Lisa was the Artistic Coordinator of the JMK Trust’s Regional Directors Program. The role included delivering workshops, supporting emerging theatre directors, the selection and awarding of Leverhulme Arts Scholarship bursaries and managing relationships with major venues and companies around the country. The programme places huge emphasis on access to the arts, identifying talent and developing progression routes. www.jmktrust.org
She is the recipient of a Creative Industries Award from The Hospital Club, London and her work with Idiots of Ants has led to a nomination from the Edinburgh Comedy Awards. Lisa was also the Education Project Manager for the National Theatre's ground breaking Art of Regeneration program.
