Yuan Hu is a Franco-Chinese filmmaker born in London.

He began his career as an intern to Spike Lee at the legendary director’s 40 Acres and a Mule Filmworks in New York in 2014 after attending one of his masterclasses.

In 2015 he worked for British photographer Rankin, as a camera operator, editor and director working across a variety of fashion films, documentaries, music videos and commercials featuring Daniel Craig, Jessie J, Heidi Klum, Gigi Hadid, Kendall Jenner, Lady Gaga and Robert Downey Jr. among others.

In 2018 he returned to work for 40 Acres on the set of the Netflix produced She’s Gotta Have It (S2) in camera dept., and in 2019 was the Director’s Assistant to Spike Lee on ‘Da Five Bloods’, filmed across Thailand and Vietnam.

He’s since directed projects for the likes of Wonderland, Highsnobiety, Triumph, Universal Music, Virgin Records and TAG Heuer, as well as promos for artists Yussef Dayes, Jacob Banks, Jonas Blue and Kings Elliot.

Favouring low-fi aesthetics and films which toy with and subvert the core principles of the medium, his style focuses heavily on music and sound, a sense of atmosphere, elastic editing and a compulsion to do things differently.
