Thomas trained at the Central School of Speech and Drama, the National Theatre Studio Directors Course, and the BBC's Emerging Directors scheme. In 2017 he was named on the BBC's New Talent Hotlist.
 
He was Staff Director at the National Theatre, Resident Director at Chichester Festival Theatre, and Director and Project Manager for Heat and Light at Hampstead Theatre. As an assistant director Thomas worked with numerous leading directors including Robert Wilson, Nicholas Hytner and Marianne Elliot.
 
He is the Executive Director of Stage Directors UK.
