William Gaunt (1900-1980) was a British artist, art historian, and author, best known for his writings on 19th-century British art. He was essential in reviving interest in the Pre-Raphaelites who were undervalued at the time. Gaunt’s most-respected works are THE PRE-RAPHAELITE TRAGEDY and THE AESTHETIC ADVENTURE, but he also published works on the Romantics (including volumes on Blake & Turner) and the Impressionists.
