Marilyn died on 21st August 2020 after a short illness.

Edinburgh and London-based theatre and audio director Marilyn' Imrie’s continuing series directing work for the BBC includes the award-winning Stanley Baxter Playhouse, Rumpole of the Bailey, and The Ferryhill Philosophers, and new Radio 4  comedies  by Hilary Lyon and Lucy Porter. She has directed eight of international poet and playwright Liz Lochhead's plays, and new works for the theatre by John Byrne, Colin MacDonald, Rona Munro, Hattie Naylor, Bill Paterson and Lucy Porter. For Bath Festival, she's directed courtroom versions of To Kill A Mockingbird & Rumpole Of the Bailey.  In 2016 she will direct a new dramatisation of Mary Shelley’s Frankenstein for Bristol Festival of Ideas and a new adaptation by Linda Maclean of Nobel prize-winner Alice Munro’s The View From Castle Rock for the Edinburgh International Book Festival.  In that year, Marilyn also directed rehearsed readings of a new play by Anna Carlisle about the Scots painter Joan Eardley at the Scottish Gallery of Modern Art (Heroica Theatre Company in association with Stellar Quines and the National Galleries of Scotland) which then toured in 2017.
