Kate Thorman is a London-based American writer who tells bold, fun, international stories with something to say. She has more than 13 years of professional editorial and storytelling experience.

Kate has a number of film & TV projects in development. Feature projects include BLUE MOTHER, a mother-daughter psychological thriller feature supported by BFI Network and Ffilm Cymru Wales, co-written with director Carys Lewis. TV projects include THE DEFECTOR, a black comedy-drama spy thriller with SunnyMarch; HOW TO GET LOST, a half-hour road trip drama with UK indie Dream & Co Fictions; and MINKUO, a historical political epic with UK indie NKD Films. Since 2022, she’s been a member of BAFTA Connect.

Between 2018 and 2022, Kate was a regular contributor to Spotify’s Parcast Network, writing 60 produced podcast episodes for their true crime and history series. She has an original narrative nonfiction podcast in development with Stabl. She also writes audio dramas for Big Finish Productions, which have starred such actors as Greg Austin (HUNTERS, MR. SELFRIDGE), Arthur Darvill (LEGENDS OF TOMORROW, BROADCHURCH), and Hugh Skinner (FLEABAG, THE WINDSORS).

Prior to becoming a screenwriter, Kate spent nearly a decade as a food and travel journalist, magazine editor, and copywriter in New York. Her words have appeared in such publications as Bon Appétit and AFAR, and have promoted such brands as Eurostar and Four Seasons Hotels & Resorts. She has worked for such agencies as Publicis and DOMANI Studios, and for the branded content studios at TIME and Condé Nast. She also produced the food and travel web series THE INNOCENTS ABROAD.

Kate writes the biweekly culture recommendations substack Keep Up, Kids and has played competitive football (soccer) her whole life. A fan of cities, she has lived in San Francisco, Los Angeles, DC, New York, Istanbul, Paris, and London, and hopes to live in Barcelona and Milan someday. She used to be fluent in French and can still get through French family dinner without embarrassing herself.
