Agent: Kat Aitken

Kat worked as a bookseller before starting in the foreign rights department at United Agents in 2015. She represents literary fiction, non-fiction and some poetry.

On the fiction side she is looking for anything extraordinary and precise in the vein of Amina Cain and Anita Brookner, as well as propulsive writing on belonging such as Brandon Taylor’s Real Life and Raven Leilani’s Luster. She also cannot resist prose that is witty and surreal like Miranda July’s The First Bad Man and Sheena Patel's I'm a Fan.

In non-fiction she is looking for stylish writing, fresh perspectives and (to borrow a phrase from Haley Nahman) anything that makes you think about the impossible task of being alive - from Nathalie Olah to Phyllis Rose. Any thought-provoking work from experts in their field always welcome, as well as academics and journalists looking to write for a trade audience. She does not represent Children’s, YA or Sci-fi/Fantasy.
