Agent: Caroline Dawnay
Caroline Dawnay started her agenting career in 1977 at A.D. Peters. She is a former President of the Association of Authors' Agents, and was Literary Agent of the Year in 2014.
She is interested in serious nonfiction and literary fiction. For submissions please email Kat Aitken a short cover letter, biographical note and the first 10,000 words of your text.
Kat worked as a bookseller before starting in the foreign rights department at United Agents in 2015. She now assists Caroline Dawnay alongside curating her own list of literary fiction and non-fiction.
On the fiction side she is looking for anything extraordinary and precise in the vein of Amina Cain and Anita Brookner, as well as propulsive writing on belonging such as Brandon Taylor’s Real Life and Raven Leilani’s Luster. She also cannot resist prose that is witty and surreal like Miranda July’s The First Bad Man. In non-fiction she is looking for stylish writing, fresh perspectives and (to borrow a phrase from Haley Nahman) anything that makes you think about the impossible task of being alive - from Nathalie Olah to Phyllis Rose. She does not represent Children’s, YA or Sci-fi/Fantasy.
