The Guardian names the best theatre, comedy and dance of 2025
The Guardian’s critics have revealed their picks for the standout stage shows of the year – and we’re delighted to see so many productions featuring United Agents clients recognised.
Theatre highlights include:
- The Unlikely Pilgrimage of Harold Fry – Adaptation co-created by Peter Darling, choreography by Tom Jackson Greaves, Associate Director Jamie Manton . ast includes Jenna Russell.
- Measure for Measure – Directed by Emily Burns, whose modern-dress RSC production reframed the play as an intense drama about sexual coercion and hypocrisy.
- 1536 – Sound design by Tingying Dong and lighting by Jack Knowles.
- Animal Farm (Stratford East) – Cast includes Tachia Newall, lighting design by Jai Morjaria.
- Much Ado About Nothing – Associate Director and Text Editor Jonathan Glew, cast includes James Phoon, casting by Stuart Burt CDG CSA.
- Return to Palestine – Performed by Alaa Shehadeh.
- Stereophonic – Cast includes Lucy Karczewski, Associate Director Emma Baggott.
Comedy highlights:
- John Tothill: This Must Be Heaven – A breakthrough year for John Tothill with his third show earning critical acclaim.
- Nick Mohammed Is Mr Swallow: Show Pony – A career-best set from Nick Mohammed, blending his beloved alter ego with sharp, self-aware humour.
