FENCES tour opens at Theatre Royal Bath

Paulette Randall’s UK Premiere of August Wilson’s Pulitzer Prize and Tony Award winning play, FENCES, has now opened at Theatre Royal Bath in a production starring Lenny Henry as Troy Maxson, with Ashley Zhangazha as his supressed son, Cory.

Paulette Randall’s excellent production … finds all the drama’s strengths

In a fine supporting ensemble there are especially strong and moving performances from Tanya Moodie as the spirited wife and Ashley Zhangazha as the son who comes to hate his father.

It’s a cracking production of a play which, despite its verbosity, achieves many passages of searching psychological insight and shattering dramatic power.
Telegraph ****

It’s all the more to Henry and director Paulette Randall’s credit, that there is no attempt to ever make Troy’s character lovable.
