Felix White to host new BBC Sounds indie music show as part of BBC Radio 6 Music’s Indie Forever launch

Felix White has been announced as the co-host of The Morning Session with Steve Lamacq & Felix White, one of the flagship programmes launching as part of BBC Radio 6 Music’s new BBC Sounds extension, Indie Forever.

Launching on 22 July, Indie Forever is a new 24-hour BBC Sounds stream dedicated to the biggest and best indie music, celebrating the artists, movements and moments that have shaped the genre from the 1980s to the present day.

At the heart of the line-up is The Morning Session with Steve Lamacq & Felix White, a weekday programme inspired by the legendary Evening Session, which became synonymous with Britpop and 1990s indie music. Together, renowned broadcaster Steve Lamacq and Felix White – musician, broadcaster and member of Mercury Prize-nominated band The Maccabees – will explore the artists, scenes, labels and cultural moments that defined generations of independent music fans.

Blending storytelling, personal insight and a carefully curated soundtrack, each edition of The Morning Session will focus on a different chapter in indie music history, revisiting the records, movements and defining moments that helped shape the UK music landscape.

Speaking about the launch, Steve Lamacq said:

“Over my career, I’ve been lucky enough to have followed the journeys of many, now famous or influential indie artists and bands. I’m really looking forward to reliving those memories each weekday morning with Felix on Indie Forever’s The Morning Session and telling the stories that shaped British independent music.”

Designed and curated by BBC Radio 6 Music, Indie Forever will feature music from iconic artists including The Stone Roses, Oasis, Blur, Pulp, The Verve, The Strokes, Arctic Monkeys, The Killers, Florence + The Machine, Yeah Yeah Yeahs, The xx, Wolf Alice, The 1975, Sam Fender and Blossoms, alongside archive performances, classic interviews and exclusive programming.

The launch schedule also includes Indie Forever Disco with Beth Ditto, City Soundtracks, special programmes dedicated to The Smiths and Oasis, artist collections and curated playlists from some of 6 Music’s best-known presenters.

On launch day, BBC Radio 6 Music will simulcast the first edition of The Morning Session with Steve & Felix, marking the beginning of a new destination for indie music fans on BBC Sounds.
