Mathew Horne Cast in Lead Role for New Britpop Comedy The Battle

We’re delighted to share that Mathew Horne has been announced as the first cast member for The Battle, a new stage comedy exploring the iconic rivalry between Britpop giants Oasis and Blur. The production will be directed by Matthew Dunster.

Set to open at the Birmingham Rep in February 2026, The Battle will embark on a UK tour with stops including Leicester’s Curve, Bromley’s Churchill Theatre, Edinburgh’s Festival Theatre, Wales Millennium Centre, and Newcastle Theatre Royal, before concluding at Chester’s Storyhouse Theatre in August 2026. A West End transfer is also in discussion.

Horne will play Andy Ross, the music executive caught in the crossfire between the two bands, and will appear in the production until 30 May. Commenting on the role, he said:

“This play is right in the sweet spot of my teenage cultural experience. I’m thrilled to be exploring this iconic era in music on stage with such a talented creative team involved.”
