Biography

Tom writes books to make himself laugh and hopes others find them funny too. His first picture book There’s Nothing Faster than a Cheetah won the 2025 Lolly for Funniest Picture Book and in 2019 he won the Stockton Children’s Book of the Year for Boyband of the Apocalypse. He has also written lots of other books that haven’t won awards and feels it’s important to mention that in case those books read this and feel left out. I love you all equally.

Tom grew up in Dundee and now lives in East Lothian with his family. When he’s not writing, reading or playing videogames badly he enjoys worrying that he should have more interests.

LEVEL UP 2019 Little Tiger

Videogame-obsessed Flo gets more than she bargained for when she finds herself INSIDE her favourite game. Turns out, virtual reality isn’t as much fun when it’s not so virtual.

When Flo’s engineer mum creates a device that will make her image appear in her videogames, Flo can’t wait to use it! Ignoring her mum’s warnings that it’s not ready, Flo accidentally transports herself into the game, along with her not-so-keen-on-videogames-and-wishing-he’d-stayed-home best friend Max. Immersed in the world of Star Smasher, they not only have to face armies of soldiers, but also the very real possibility that there may not be a way out…

From the author of BOYBAND OF THE APOCALYPSE comes a laugh-out-loud adventure with a technological twist, perfect for fans of I SWAPPED MY BROTHER ON THE INTERNET, David Baddiel and Minecraft.

THERE'S A DRAGON IN MY DINNER 2016 Little Tiger

As Eric empties the cartons from Friday night’s Chinese takeaway, he catches a flash of green and spots a puff of smoke… So Pan – a Mini Dragon – enters his life, and proceeds to turn it upside down. How is Eric going to explain the trail of devastation caused by one creature not much bigger than a spring roll? A hilarious new series for fans of Jeremy Strong and Compton Valance.
