Biography

Terry Loane is an Irish writer and director whose debut feature film, MICKYBO & ME, starring Julie Walters and Gina McKee, has won numerous awards as well as nominations at Edinburgh Film Festival and the Irish National Film and Television Awards.

Terry is based in Belfast where he is currently developing a number of his own projects, as well as continuing to write and direct for TV and film.

Director

Terry is an award-winning screenwriter, producer and director who lives in Belfast, Northern Ireland. He completed his Masters Degree in Fine Art Photography in 1994. After years designing for theatre and film, he completed Mickybo & Me in 2004, his debut as feature film director and screenwriter for Working Title Films and Universal Pictures. It won numerous awards on the international festival circuit. His second feature as director was Agatha and the Truth of Murder (2018), starring Ruth Bradley, Ralph Ineson and Tim McInnerny. In 2010, Terry and actress/producer Geraldine Hughes set up Prodigal Films Limited to develop and produce feature films and television drama in Ireland and beyond. In 2022, Prodigal Films Limited developed, co-wrote and produced Prodigal Films’ first feature – ‘In The Land Of Saints And Sinners’ – starring Irish Oscar-nominees Liam Neeson, Ciarán Hinds and Kerry Condon. It was the first time Terry and fellow Irishman Mark McNally collaborated as writers on a feature script. ‘In the Land of Saints and Sinners’ was selected for the Horizons Extra Competition in the Venice Film Festival 2023.

In 2023, Terry completed his third feature as director, The Last Rifleman, starring Pierce Brosnan, Clémence Poésy, Jürgen Prochnow and John Amos.

Awards for Mickybo & Me include: 

 • Shortlisted for Michael Powell Award for Best British Film, Edinburgh International Film Festival, 2004. 
• Nominated for six IRISH FILM AND TELEVISION AWARDS 2005, including Best Film, Best New Talent, Best Screenplay. It won the IFTA for Best Costume Design. 
• BEST IRISH FILM in the BIG BUZZ IRELAND ENTERTAINMENT AWARDS 2005 • BEST FEATURE FILM in the BOSTON IRISH FILM FESTIVAL 2005. 
• AUDIENCE AWARD at the International Children’s Film Festival, Chemnitz, 2005
