Simon Puttock

Children's Author

Biography

Simon was born in New Zealand and dragged up all over the place. He now lives in Edinburgh with no cats, hamsters or goldfish. As a child he lived by the (warm, Caribbean) sea, and I would like to live by the (any old) sea again. In an ideal world, he would live at least part of every year underwater.

(He really doesn’t like writing these biog-type things.)

Simon has been a judge for the Whitbread Children’s Award and the Kathleen Fidler Award, and a guest lecturer in picture books at the University of Newcastle-upon-Tyne.

Since moving to Scotland Simon has won the Highland Book Award 2006 (picture book category) for Little Lost Cowboy; the Royal Mail Scottish Children’s Book Award 2006 (same category, same book) and been nominated for the picturebook category in the 2008 awards for GOAT & DONKEY IN STRAWBERRY SUNGLASSES.

Fluffywuffy

Mr Moot lives a quiet life with his cherished pet, Fluffywuffy, by his side. He isn’t troubled by neighbours, or mice, or even the postman… But when an uninvited guest comes to visit, Mr Moot finds himself kept awake every night. If it’s not the sound of drums, then the noise of chainsaws and even motorbikes comes from the living room below. Luckily for Mr Moot, Fluffywuffy has a solution for how to deal with his (unlucky) guest! Kids will love this darkly funny story with a brilliant mischievous twist!

CAT LEARNS TO LISTEN AT MOONLIGHT SCHOOL 2017 Nosy Crow

A gentle, reassuring picture book, perfect for little ones who are about to start school.

Miss Moon is taking her class on a magical moonlit nature walk to see what interesting things they can find. Mouse finds a special starry leaf, Bat finds a swirly snail and Owl finds a swirly stone that LOOKS like a snail. But then Cat follows a flittery firefly and suddenly . . . she’s lost!

Luckily, she has left behind lots of clues for her friends to follow, and they soon find a very relieved little Cat, who wished she had listened properly in the first place. Then they all go back to Moonlight School together to talk about their eventful excursion.

A gentle story about the importance of staying safe by listening to grown-ups and not wandering off.

THE THING 2017 Farshore

One day, the Thing falls from the sky and four strangers stumble across it.

Together they decide to work together to take care of the Thing. But before long a media circus builds up around the creature they are protecting and the debate about the Thing spreads far around the world.

What is the Thing?
Who does it belong to?
What does it do?
And is it any use for anything at all?

This captivating picture book will be many things to many people: a story about thoughtfulness, an adventure in friendship and an intriguing and gentle social commentary on the search for meaning in modern life.

Daniel Egnéus’ unique and engaging artwork beautifully illustrates this enigmatic story and brings the strange Thing to life. With a similar feel to Alexis Deacon’s Beegu and Shaun Tan’s The Lost Thing, this is the perfect bedtime story for children and adults to enjoy together.
