Biography

Simen is one of Scandinavia’s most accomplished directors, breaking internationally with the hit series LILYHAMMER, which he co‑created and set up. Starring Steve Van Zandt (The Sopranos), the show delivered NRK’s highest‑ever drama premiere, sold worldwide, and became one of Netflix’s earliest global successes. It went on to win two Golden Nymph Awards for Best Comedy Drama.
A sought‑after lead director, Simen helmed the acclaimed comedy‑crime series FALLET (now on Netflix), which won Best Comedy Drama at C21 and earned multiple Golden Nymph nominations, as well as a nomination for Best Dramedy at the Seoul International Drama Awards. He also co‑created and directed every episode of Norway’s long‑running hit NESTE SOMMER, sold to ABC in the US and Discovery Channel, Norway’s biggest show for four consecutive years.
Alongside his television work, Simen is an award‑winning commercials director with over 100 campaigns for major global brands including Coca‑Cola and McDonald’s. His work has been recognised at Cannes Lions, the EBU Promo Awards, and numerous international festivals.
Most recently, Simen served as lead director on ITV/New Pictures’ PROTECTION, following his work on BBC One/Studio Lambert’s THE NEST – a critically acclaimed thriller praised for its performances, emotional complexity, and sharp commentary on class and aspiration.
