Peter Mackie Burns is an award- winning Director whose work includes MILK starring Oscar winner Brenda Fricker that won numerous awards around the world including the Golden Bear for Best Short Film at the Berlin Film Festival in 2005. The film played has played at over one hundred international film festivals and has been broadcast in many countries.
Peter’s short film RUN (BBC SCOTLAND) was officially selected for the prestigious Telluride film festival in 2006 and toured extensively. The film stars Danish star Paprika Stein star of Danish art house hit FESTEN.
Peter directed a Coming Up for Channel 4 called THE SPASTIC KING from a script by Jack Thorne. The TV film was both The Guardian and Time Out magazine’s Pick Of The Week.
Peter then directed COME CLOSER. The essay film is a series of vignettes focusing on the lives of a dozen people with quite startling intimacy. The film was described as “A Tour de force” by the Herald and was selected for the London Open City International Documentary Festival 2012.
Peter also contributed s to a book of essays by writers including Will Self, Terence Hayes, Jackie Kay and others published by Cargo books in Autumn 2012.
DAPHNE, Peter’s debut fiction feature, premiered at Rotterdam in Jan 2017 and played at SXSW. The film starring Emily Beecham won Best Screen play Award at the Valetta International Film Festival and also Best female performance in a British film EIFF and was released in September 2017 by Altitude Films.
Peter is currently developing film and television projects for The Bureau.
