Biography
Award winning cinematographer Paul Sarossy’s recent projects include 7 VEILS, directed by Atom Egoyan starring Amanda Seyfried, LONGING, directed by Savi Gabizon starring Richard Gere and IRENA’S VOW, directed by Louise Archambault starring Sophie Nelisse. His credits include GUEST OF HONOUR (nominated for Gold Lion at Venice) directed by Atom Egoyan, starring David Thewlis, THE PADRE, starring Tim Roth and Nick Nolte. Paul’s long time collaboration with Atom Egoyan include the films REMEMBER, THE CAPTIVE, DEVIL’S KNOT, CHLOE, ADORATION, WHERE THE TRUTH LIES, ARARAT, FELICIA’S JOURNEY, THE SWEET HEREAFTER, EXOTICA, THE ADJUSTER and SPEAKING PARTS as well as the TV production KRAPP’S LAST TAPE. The 2016 Camerimage Festival (Poland) awarded Egoyan and Sarossy their prestigious ‘Duo Award’ for their 27 year (now 35 year) collaboration.
Sarossy’s other credits include Neil Jordan’s THE BORGIAS starring Jeremy Irons, Dover Koshashvilli’s THE DUEL, HEAD IN THE CLOUDS starring Charlize Theron and Penelope Cruz and CHARLIE BARTLETT starring Robert Downey Jr. He was also director of photography on Neil Labute’s THE WICKER MAN starring Nicholas Cage, DUETS with Gwyneth Paltrow, Paul Schrader’s Oscar nominated AFFLICTION with Nick Nolte and James Coburn, PICTURE PERFECT starring Jennifer Aniston, Denys Arcand’s LOVE AND HUMAN REMAINS, Vincent Perez’s THE SECRET and THE DEAL with Meg Ryan and William H. Macy among many others. Awards for cinematography include a Golden Frog nomination for REMEMBER (2016), five Genies (Canada’s Oscar), one Canadian Screen Award, two Gemini’s, nine CSC Awards and an Emmy nomination, an ASC nomination, a BSC nomination and an Independent Spirit nomination.
Sarossy directed the British feature MR. IN BETWEEN, which premiered at TIFF and gathered several awards and nominations, including a Grand Prix nomination and Best Actor win at the Tokyo International Film Festival. Six of Sarossy’s films have been nominated for the Palm d’Or at Cannes and two for the Golden Lion at Venice.
