Paul studied playwriting at the University of Ulster.  In 2009 he was invited to take part in Tinderbox Theatre Company's Writer’s Lab, and from that gained his first commission.  GUIDELINES FOR A LONG AND HAPPY LIFE premiered in 2011 and saw Paul nominated for the Stewart Parker New Writing Award.  He was invited to take part in the New Playwright’s Program at the Abbey Theatre in Dublin in 2012.

Paul sold the option on his first screenplay, WANTED DEAD in 2011. In 2013 he completed his film as writer/director, the rom-com ‘MADE IN BELFAST’.  The film played the festival circuit for a year, winning a number of awards.
