Congratulations to Alissa Nutting whose story, ‘The Expectation of Anywhere‘, has been longlisted for the 2014 Sunday Times Short Story Award. The £30,000 prize – the largest in the world for a single short story – is awarded for an outstanding English-language story of 6,000 words or under from a fiction author from anywhere in the world who has been published in the UK or Ireland.
In her story, Alissa, author of last year’s controversial TAMPA, explores a teenager’s ‘unusal sort of unrequited love’. Both funny and moving, this story is an honest look at the awkwardness and yearning of a difficult coming of age.
The shortlist will be announced in the Sunday Times on 2nd March, followed by a gala dinner on 4th April to announce the winner.
