Melitta Breznik was born in Austria in 1961. She studied medicine and has worked as a general practitioner and psychiatrist. Her writing career began in 1995 with NACHTDIENST, which was translated into several languages. Since then, Luchterhand/RH has published FIGUREN (1998), DAS UMSTELLFORMAT (2002), NORDLICHT (2009) and DER SOMMER HAT LANGE AUF SICH WARTEN LASSEN (2013). She lives in Switzerland, where she has set up a rehabilitation clinic for psychosomatic illnesses.
An essay on Europe was published in Granta 149: Strangers in the Land in November 2019.
Melitta's new book, MUTTER, was published by Luchterhand in May 2020.
