Biography

Lou Baker Smith lives in Bath and has been working as a freelance illustrator since graduating with a with a First-Class Degree (Hons) in Illustration. Working for a number of years for a wide range of UK based and international clients in the fields of editorial, publishing and packaging.

A love of stationery led her to enter the greeting card market. She was Partner/Designer in a Greeting Card Company, supplying distributors worldwide as well as numerous independent retailers and stores such as John Lewis, Waterstones, Paperchase, Fortnum and Mason, Selfridges and the QE2.

Most recently she has been working on and absolutely loving illustrating children’s non-fiction picture books, particularly those with an environmental bias.

Working in a variety of ways from printmaking to traditional watercolour. A common thread running through her work is the use of collage be it on paper, fabric or with digital technology.
