Julian Murphy

Biography

Julian graduated from Cambridge in 1987. After a brief stint at Yorkshire Television Julian joined Central where he worked as a Script Editor on a number of successful series including BOON and INSPECTOR MORSE. He then developed PEAK PRACTICE with Lucy Gannon and was a Story Editor for the first two series.

In 1994 he left Central to co-found an independent production company, Ikona Films, which was immediately commissioned to make THE VET for BBC1. Julian produced the second series and then joined the BBC as an Executive Producer where he worked on a number of productions including DANGERFIELD and PRESTON FRONT.

In 1997 he developed a new version of the SCARLET PIMPERNEL and went on to produce a series of films starring Richard E Grant and Elizabeth McGovern for the BBC and the A&E Network in America.

Julian joined Carnival Films in 1998 where he produced two series of the award-winning teenage drama AS IF and an American version for UPN. Julian also directed four episodes of Series 2.

In 2002 he was asked by Elizabeth Murdoch to set up the Drama Department at Shine where he was Creative Director and produced an anthology series (LOVE BYTES) for Australian TV, SUGAR RUSH for Channel 4, a major International co-production with Sony Pictures (HEX) and the hit BBC1 show MERLIN.

He has now left shine and set up his own production company with Johnny Capps, Urban Myth, where they have produced ATLANTIS.
