Biography
Edem Wornoo is a Ghanaian-British writer and director from South London.
Thematically, Edem’s work consists of Street Level Fantasies that draw out the magic in everyday life through a mixture of genre, dramedy and heartfelt storytelling.
He won Best Screenplay at SoulFest x American Black Film Festival for his short film BUTTERFLY AFFECT, produced in association with Sky. BUTTERFLY AFFECT, along with his subsequent short THAT DOOR, received Official Selections at the London Short Film Festival in 2023 and 2025, respectively. His latest short END OF PLAY (BBC Film) premiered at London Film Festival 2025 and won Best Sci-Fi/Fantasy award at the 2025 Bolton Film Festival. Edem is now developing his debut feature NOVA with BBC Film.
Edem has frequently collaborated with Candice Carty-Williams as both a writer and director. He served as the 2nd Unit Director on her shows QUEENIE (Channel 4, Disney+, Hulu) and CHAMPION (BBC, Netflix), for which he also wrote an episode.
Nominated for Best New Director at the UK Music Video Awards in 2022, Edem’s also known for his award winning music videos for artists such as Dave, Stormzy, and Danny Brown, alongside his poignant narrative work.
