Biography
Duncan is a children’s author and illustrator from Bristol, UK. He has been obsessed with drawing ever since he could hold a felt tip in his clammy little fist, and has fond memories of sprawling out on his parents’ living room carpet for hours on end, filling his sketchbooks with doodles of Garfield, Danger Mouse, and Judge Dredd.
His debut picture book The Bear Who Stared (Templar) was nominated for the Waterstones Children’s Book Prize 2017 and the follow up The Lumberjack’s Beard was shortlisted for the World Illustration Awards. Since then he has gone on to write and illustrate titles for Little Tiger, Quarto, Walker Books, and Usborne, and was commissioned to design the illustrated autumn trail at Westonbirt Arboretum in Gloucestershire.
When not busy drawing kung-fu kicking llamas, heavy metal badgers, or starey bears, he can be found ambling through the woods or reading ghost stories.

There once was a bear who liked to stare… and stare… and STARE.
Bear doesn’t mean to be rude, he’s just curious but too shy to say anything. But nobody likes being stared at and it soon gets Bear into trouble. Luckily a goggly-eyed frog helps Bear realise that sometimes a smile is all you need to turn a stare into a friendly hello.
