Diarmuid Goggins

Director

Biography

Diarmuid is currently shooting CLOSE TO HOME for Channel 4 / Element Pictures, based on Michael Magee’s debut novel, which received the prestigious 2023 Rooney Prize for Irish Literature and the Nero Prize for Debut Fiction 2024.

Prior to this, he was the lead director on CODE OF SILENCE, a new thriller series for Mammoth Screen/ITV, executive produced by Damien Timmer and Tom Leggett. The series was met with widespread critical acclaim, receiving consistent four‑star reviews, and has since been nominated for Best Original Programme at the 2026 Broadcast Awards. It also earned three RTS Award nominations – Best Drama Series, Leading Actor (Female), and Writer (Drama) – and recently received a BAFTA nomination for Best Drama Series.

He also recently directed BLACK CAB starring Robert Glenister and WITNESS NO.3 for both for Story Films. Before this he set up the series KIN for Bron Studios and AMC+. The show did incredibly well at this year’s IFTAS, with 13 nominations and wins in all four acting categories.

Prior to this Diarmuid worked on BULLETPROOF Series 2 as Lead Director having previously been Lead Director on SILENT WITNESS. Other recent credits include Lead Director on series 3 of Dublin-set police drama RED ROCK for Element Pictures/TV3/BBC. His early credits include directing on CASUALTY, HOLLYOAKS, and CBBC comedy-dramas DANI’S CASTLE and MILLIE INBETWEEN.

Graduating from The National Film School in 2003, Diarmuid’s short film NELL came 3rd in the Best First Short category at the Galway Film Fleadh. He went on to direct factual and dramatic programming for RTÉ and TG4, Ireland’s leading broadcasters, before writing and directing his 2010 short drama CAR PARK. That same year, Diarmuid also directed THE LINE, which The Sunday Times described as ‘a slickly executed dystopian drama made with the confident swagger of director Goggins. JESUS, MARY AND MATTIE was Diarmuid’s next drama, a moving adaptation of Patrick Pearse’s short story about a man, Mattie, who after his losing his wife, struggles to find any meaning in his life.

CODE OF SILENCE REVIEWS

“A fresh, original drama that has done the near impossible and given us a cop drama with something new to say.” (The Times, Carol Midgley, 4*)

“A taut plot sees Alison drawn further into danger, and the direction builds a real air of menace.” (The Telegraph, Anita Singh, 4*)

“Code of Silence is truly ground breaking, and the first three instalments are sublime” (The Independent, Charlotte O’Sullivan, 4*)
