Biography

David Shields is a British actor, who, on-screen, can most recently be seen in the Amblin TV/Apple TV mini-series – MASTERS OF THE AIR, written by John Orloff, directed by Cary Fukunaga (No Time to Die) and produced by Steven Spielberg and Tom Hanks. David has built up a wide range of credits from both stage and screen including the hit season of BLACK MIRROR.

His most recent television work includes ITV’s VAN DER VALK and the Netflix series THE LIBERATOR, TREADSTONE opposite Jeremy Irvine – the series based on the Bourne trilogy. Other credits include the role of Ronan in DOCTOR WHO opposite Jodie Whittaker, DOCTORS (BBC) and in Netflix series mega-hit THE CROWN opposite Vanessa Kirby.

David has recently been announced to star in upcoming television series for BBC One and iPlayer, DEAR ENGLAND, based on the play of the same name by James Graham. David will take on the role of Jordan Henderson.

His most recent film work included FREUD’S LAST SESSION opposite Anthony Hopkins and JUDY which was up for Best Picture at the Academy Awards in 2020 and directed by Rupert Goold. Previous film credits include THE BAD EDUCATION MOVIE starring Jack Whitehall and UNA with Rooney Mara and Tara Fitzgerald as well as a number of leading roles in short films such as SUNDAY MORNING COMING DOWN, POMPEII and BACKTRACK.

David has recently finished his run in critically acclaimed play PUNCH at the Apollo Theatre, following its transfer from the Nottingham Playhouse and The Young Vic. David earned a 2026 Olivier Award Best Actor nomination for his role as Jacob Dunne. The play was nominated in 4 categories, and went on to win Best New Play.

His other stage work includes HUSH at The Gate Theatre, MONSTER PARTY at the Arcola Theatre and ARCADIA at the Oxford Playhouse. David also has an extensive list of roles that he did whilst studying including Platonov in WILD HONEY, Earl of Suffolk in HENRY VI: PART II and El-Fayoumi in THE LAST DAYS OF JUDAS ISCARIOT directed by Michael Fentiman.
