Biography
A multi-hyphenate, David Earl is a British actor-comedian-writer-producer, best known for his stand-up comedy character Brian Gittins. Recently – alongside Chris Hayward – David wrote and starred in Brian And Charles (Film4), which was acquired by Focus Features and Universal Pictures for US and international distribution respectively, after scoring the win for Audience Favourite Award at Sundance Film Festival 2022. The feature also received a BAFTA 2023 nomination for Outstanding British Film.
David is a frequent collaborator with Ricky Gervais and comic Joe Wilkinson. David has starred in a number of Gervais’ projects including, comedy-drama Derek (Netflix) where he played the seedy Kev and more recently as Brian in all three series seasons of After Life (Netflix) – accolades of which include Best Comedy at the National Television Awards 2021 and Best Screenplay in a TV series at the National Film Awards UK 2021. With Wilkinson, David co-wrote and starred in the sitcom Rovers (Jellylegs) and The Cockfields (GOLD).
Other credits include Sick Note (Netflix), alongside Rupert Grint and Nick Frost, Drunk History (Comedy Central), Extras (BBC) and features Cemetry Junction, The Penalty King, and most recently, Apocalypse Clown. David is soon to be heard in Netflix’s new Adult Animated Series Alleycats.

David Earl is a writer, actor, comedian and presenter, best known for his comedy character Brian Gittins and his roles in sitcom hits ‘After Life’ and ‘Derek’.
As a writer, David co-wrote and starred in the feature film Brian and Charles which was nominated for a BAFTA in 2023. He also co-wrote and starred in comedy series ‘Rovers’ (Sky) and ‘The Cockfields’ (BBC).
As a presenter, David hosts the hit podcast ‘Chatabix’ with Joe Wilkinson. David and Joe are soon to co-host the upcoming U&Gold travelogue/retrospective ‘Magical Sitcom Tour’, exploring their love of classic British sitcoms. David also hosts the podcast ‘You Don’t Know What You’re Doing’ about Exeter City FC.
