Biography
Carly Gledhill is a children’s book author/ illustrator, illustration lecturer and surface pattern designer, based in Manchester, UK.
Her work draws from a love of colour, 90’s Kid’s TV, The X Files, slapstick humour, mid century design and hours spent tending to her garden.
She has completed an MA in Children’s Book Illustration and loves to create silly stories full of humour, friendship and, usually, loads of flowers, because she loves drawing them the most.
Carly writes and illustrates picture, novelty and board books for publishers including: Macmillan, Penguin Random House, Post Wave Children’s Books and Do Re Mi. But she shies away from stories involving horses, because they’re too difficult to draw, have you ever tried? They’re so HARD.
In 2024 and 2026 Carly’s work was a winner at the Bologna Children’s Book Fair Illustrators Exhibition and her work has been displayed at galleries and events including: Pictoplasma Berlin, Shelf Editions, Shanghai Baoshan Folk Art Museum and The Itabashi Art Museum, Tokyo.
She likes running (sort of), playing netball, PEZ, gardening, collecting children’s books old and new, New York City, true crime podcasts and supporting Leeds United FC.
