Biography
Ali Naushahi is a bold and emotionally astute director and writer working across drama, documentary, and hybrid formats. With a background in classical acting (Drama Centre London and Vakhtangov Theatre, Moscow), Ali brings a deep understanding of performance and psychological nuance to every project. Her work is defined by a confident command of narrative, a sharp editorial instinct, and a visual style that balances cinematic ambition with emotional precision.
Ali’s credits span high-profile continuing drama, landmark arts programming, and premium international docu-drama. Her work includes directing for ITV’s Emmerdale, helming drama sequences for the BBC’s Jane Austen: Rise of a Genius – a series that garnered critical acclaim, including multiple 5-star reviews – among them, from Lucy Mangan in The Guardian “even the author herself would be a fan of this spot on tribute” – and shaping powerful narratives in true crime series such as Locked up Abroad, Web of Death, and Impact of Murder..
