Patricia Neate graduated from Oxford University in 1960, raised four children and became a marriage guidance counsellor before qualifying as a systemic therapist, specialising in family therapy. Since retirement, she has spent more than eight years reading and transcribing an archive of over a thousand letters, diaries and other papers passed down through her husband’s family by their Victorian ancestors. The Macirones – a family whose hopes, fears, struggles and successes captivated her imagination while remaining ever out of reach – are the subject of her first book, ALL MY DARLINGS: A VICTORIAN FAMILY IN THEIR OWN WORDS.
