O Nathapon was born and raised in Thailand. He moved to England when he was fourteen to attend high school. He returned to Bangkok for a one-year acting course before leaving for Los Angeles to study film at the Art Center College of Design for four years.
His first short film ‘Bicycles & Radios’ (which he wrote, produced and directed) was nominated for a Student Academy Award (Student Oscar). The film went on to win many more awards at film festivals in the United States, including the biggest Asian film festival in the country, the 27th Asian American International Film Festival (Excellence In Short Filmmaking Award) in New York and the Fort Lauderdale International Film Festival. Over a period of two years, the film was shown in more than fifty film festivals worldwide. With the success of ‘Bicycles & Radios’, O was selected by Kodak to be one of its Emerging Filmmakers. Included in this honour was a screening of the film at the Cannes Film Festival.
O’s feature-length screenplay ‘A Moment In June’ won the Produire au Sud competition in Thailand which was partly funded by the French government and O was able to raise the money in France for his first Thai feature production. The film had its premiere at the Pusan International Film Festival where it was nominated for the New Currents Award. It went on to screenings at film festivals around the world.
In 2008, O was selected by Channel 4 to direct ‘Raising Baby Rio’ as part of the Coming Up scheme. The film had its premiere at the Edinburgh International Film Festival 2009 and shown on Channel 4 later that year.
Between 2009-12, back in Thailand, O worked with acclaimed director, M.L. Pundhevanop Dhewakul, on four of his films.
In 2014, O was selected to participate in Screen Yorkshire’s Triangle programme where he met Sabina Sattar, the producer for his up-coming feature-length English project ‘Four Corners of the Endless Sea’ which he has co-written and will direct. The project is currently in development.
He is also in development with producer, Jo Seager, at Three Pegs Productions on his short film,‘The Adventure of Tomo, the Robot’.
