After leaving Portree High School, Isle of Skye, Johnny worked as a ship’s photographer in the Pacific and Caribbean for two years. It was during this time that he made the decision to spend his life looking through lenses at people.
He attended Glasgow School of Art (Fine Art - Photography, BA Honours) from 1998 to 2002 and Goteborg School of Photography & Film during 2001. Upon graduating, he immediately began making short films and music videos.
TROUT, his first short, screened at Sundance 2007 and was BAFTA Scotland nominated in 2006. He has been voted a Screen International 'Star of Tomorrow', and TUMULT, his most recent short, was nominated for a Best Short Film UK BAFTA last year, while also screening at Sundance, London Short Film Festival and SXSW.
He lives and works in Glasgow, and is currently developing his first feature film, COCCYX, with producer Anna Duffield, and a television series, ANTARICA.
