David has recently added ‘television presenter’ to his catalogue of achievements, having already enjoyed a varied career stretching from university lecturer to renowned acrobat.
A BEng degree in Electrical engineering, a PhD in micro-Electronics, a Masters in 3 Dimensional design and a life time of building creations in his shed have left him with a very wide skill set. He also worked as an acrobat performing a hand balancing act all over the country and beyond in everything from major festivals to opera in front of royalty.
Dave honed his presenting skills whilst performing acrobatics and later whilst working as a University lecturer. He engaged and encouraged innumerable students, adapting his thespian skills to facilitate the understanding of such complex topics as silicon compilation. His interests in engineering, science and technology are extensive and the ability to make them exciting and engaging is self evident.
Dave constructed an experimental valve-less pulse jet for a radio 4 program ‘Wittgenstein’s jet’ and was one of the presenters of ‘Turbo Pickers’ on the Discovery channel. He has recently finished an award winning custom motorcycle, a total ‘from the ground up’ project with every nut and bolt being made on his lathe; The motorcycle has featured in ‘100% biker’ magazine. Dave has also written an article on monowheels for ‘MAKE’ magazine, an American publication and has featured in ‘The Farm show magazine’ in the USA! He regularly creates devices and effects for a special effects company for film and television
One of his creations, ‘The Red Max monowheel’ was seen on BBC1 in ‘Professor Branestawm Returns’; the uniqueness of the vehicle, and his ability to perform, meant he was the stunt double for the actor as well!
