Ann Coburn lives in Berwick upon Tweed and the wild landscape of North Northumberland often features in her writing. Her most recent books include GLINT (Random House), an award-winning novel for older readers, and DREAM TEAM (Walker Books),a fiction series for younger children about a team of trainee Dream Fetchers.  The first four DREAM TEAMbooks are out now and the next four are coming soon. When not writing under her own name, Ann leads a parallel life as a children’s fiction ghost writer, and also writes for stage and T.V.  Her first theatre play, GET UP & TIE YOUR FINGERS (Oberon Books), had a successful run at the 1996 Edinburgh Festival and won the Arts Council’s 1997 John Whiting award for new theatre writing.  She has since written six more theatre plays, for both adults and children.  Ann’s plays are published by Oberon Books. 

 

Ann works with other authors and playwrights of all ages, as a mentor and a tutor.  She is currently tutoring on the MA in Creative Writing at Newcastle University.  For further details about Ann’s author talks, creative writing workshops and courses for both adults and children, visit her website: www.anncoburn.com

Film, TV & Theatre

Ann was born in Northumberland and spent her childhood in the north-east. She has now returned to live in the Northumbrian borders with her partner and two children. 

Her first full length play GET UP AND TIE YOUR FINGERS was premiered at the Borders Festival in 1995 and had a successful three-week run at the Gilded Balloon 1996 Edinburgh Festival Fringe and won the 1997 John Whiting Award for new theatre writing. The play toured the UK and is published by Oberon in an edition with SAFE (2001). Her second play THE DEVIL'S GROUND, also commissioned by the Borders Festival, completed a successful tour and DAYTIME was commissioned by New Writing North and alsot toured the UK.  



She received a Writer's Award in 1996 from the Arts Council of England. 

Ann also writes for television.
